Spondylosis is a general term referring to degenerative or age-related spine disease. It includes a number of conditions, including: • Osteoarthritis • Disc disease • Spondylolisthesis (in which a bone in the spine slips forward, causing a misalignment in the spine) In severe cases, pain due to any of these conditions may cause disability. Or, a complication of these conditions may cause disability. For example, a complication of lumbar osteoarthritis or disc disease is lumbar spinal stenosis, in which the spinal cord is compressed, leading to weakness or numbness in the legs. This can impair function to the point of disability.

Although “people with disabilities” sometimes refers to a single population, this is actually a diverse group of people with a wide range of needs. Two people with the same type of disability can be affected in very different ways. Some disabilities may be hidden or not easy to see.
If you have a disability or care for someone who does, it might be helpful to talk with other people who can relate to your experience. By finding support within your community, you can learn more about resources available to meet the needs of families and people with disabilities.
